An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Digital Arts team within Manchester Metropolitan University as a Technical Officer for Illustration, Animation and Graphics in the Manchester School of Arts/SODA. About the role: As a Technical Officer the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Skills Sessions covering both software and equipment relating to illustration, animation and graphics. The successful candidate will have an interest and experience in printing (inkjet, laser, wide format, booklets etc.) and will assist students in printing their work from Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign etc.
Across the School of Art and the School of Digital Art we have a set of studio spaces encompassing 2D and 3D stop motion animation. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining these areas, demonstrating their function to students and ensuring Health & Safety guidelines are always met. The successful candidate will also deliver sessions on Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Dragonframe (amongst others).
Day to day Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of Stop Frame animation studios (3D & 2D)
- Delivery of inductions to spaces/studios
- Support for students in specialist printing space (printing Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign documents)
- Delivery of Skills Workshops on software and equipment relating to the disciplines
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with equipment and software
- Providing support to students by offering guidance on the correct operation of equipment and software
- Ordering and manage spare parts and supplies as needed
About you:
- Proven experience in a wide range of Adobe Creative Cloud software, predominantly Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Knowledge of the principles of printing (colour profiles, paper types etc.)
- Knowledge of stop frame animation techniques including lighting, camera operation and software
- Digital literacy using email, Teams, and Office 365.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.
