As an Academic Leader you will be responsible for the delivery of highly credible and effective academic guidance, management and strategic direction. Your work and influence will provide a supportive and stimulating working environment for your staff, whilst our students will benefit from the high quality learning experience your department will provide.
These are demanding and wide ranging roles, supporting (as well as deputising for) the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor across financial management, budgeting, staff resourcing and engagement activities. You will provide strong and visible departmental leadership at a time of significant change – both for the University itself and higher education in general.
You will ensure that communications function effectively across the department, ensuring that your team is fully cognisant of the University, faculty and departmental journey.
You will lead and support the academic and professional development of academic staff, as well as managing relevant quality assurance procedures, ensuring an ethos of continual improvement in the quality of department teaching and the student experience. Your responsibilities will also cover effective line management which will see you actively playing a role in recruitment and selection, performance management and academic and professional development of your team.
Many of our Academic Leaders are also Professors and hold the post on a rotational basis, providing an enriching opportunity to develop skills and experience. These roles call for strong, empowering leadership, as well as the ability to inspire the development of best practice and on-going departmental improvement.
