Incubation Services Manager (9-month maternity cover) (4149)

Incubation Services Manager - Maternity cover (9-mth fixed term)

A dynamic and driven Incubation Services Manager is required to cover a 9-month maternity leave at Manchester Metropolitan University's incubator, based at Turing House, adjacent to our Birley Campus. Ideally, the successful candidate would be able to start no later than early January 2022, with an end date of 30th September 2022.

Manchester Met's incubator, Innospace, was established in 2006 to support start-ups and early-stage businesses run by students and graduates, as well as regional entrepreneurs. It is recognised as one of the longest-serving incubation spaces in Greater Manchester.  Our mission is to support and stimulate businesses to start and scale by offering a suite of specialist growth and innovation support that leverages our academic strengths.

You will work as part of the SME Programmes team, providing operational management for the incubator, driving the recruitment of new licensees (start-ups and SMEs based in the incubator), and organising the provision of the incubator's suite of business support, growth, and innovation services.

This role is being advertised externally but is also available as a potential secondment opportunity for an existing Manchester Met staff member. Due to the temporary nature of this post, if you are applying for a secondment, you will need authorisation from your line manager to apply.

Role

The role requires a highly organised and driven manager with experience working within an incubation setting or a business support environment. The post holder will help deliver an ambitious strategy to increase licensee recruitment and engagement with the incubator's business growth, innovation, and knowledge exchange activities.

You will:

  • Be responsible for the effective management of the incubator environment, including managing the facilities, finances, licensing agreements, reporting and programme/service provision.
  • Be responsible for the marketing of the facilities and programmes as well as the recruitment, and induction of new licensees.
  • Actively promote incubation services internally within Manchester Met by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant professional services and academic staff and students across the University to generate awareness, interest and involvement.
  • Ensure the delivery of any relevant agreed targets and outcomes relating to the incubation services.
  • Represent and promote the incubator at relevant events, conferences, visits and meetings.
  • Develop links with appropriate external organisations in order to ensure best practice and support the growth of the incubator.
  • Actively support Manchester Met's enterprise education process working with relevant RKE (Research and Knowledge Exchange), professional services and academic colleagues.

Experience required

You will report to the SME Programmes Manager and work collaboratively with the wider business engagement team to jointly deliver the University's incubation strategy. Therefore, knowledge and experience of business support, growth and innovation programmes is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to promote opportunities and negotiate with a broad range of businesses is important, while a proven ability to be proactive, to prioritise tasks and work independently in a rapidly developing area is essential. See job description person specification for additional details.
