Lecturer (Organisational Psychology) (3228)

The Faculty of Business and Law brings together MMU Business School and Manchester Law School in our award-winning building located in the centre of Manchester. We have supported industry and commerce in the city since 1889; today we offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, together with professional qualifications, many recognised by industry associations.


The Department of People and Performance is a research led academic department at Manchester Metropolitan University, and home to the Decent Work and Productivity University Centre for Research and Knowledge Exchange ( It is a leading provider of accredited and prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (including the MBA and Master of Sports Directorship). The focus for this appointment is to build further research capability, as well as to provide academic leadership in the delivery and development of departmental teaching programmes. These include campus based, online, blended and international provision.



Applications are invited from those with relevant experience and expertise for a Lectureship in Organisational Psychology or Occupational Psychology. There is an expectation that the appointed person will research, publish and seek external grant funding to support research in their area, contributing to departmental research objectives and to work within the Decent Work and Productivity Research Centre. There is also the expectation that they will contribute, as appropriate, to the range of teaching programmes on offer (undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA and executive).


Ideal Candidate

You will need to have a PhD (or be close to completion) in a relevant field, plus evidence of high quality research that is impactful and publishable in peer-reviewed journals. Experience of teaching on undergraduate, postgraduate and/or executive education programmes and a commitment to providing a high quality student experience.


Essential Criteria

  • A good first degree together with a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant discipline (or equivalent qualifications).
  • A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
  • An in-depth understanding of the subject area, including recent developments in the field.
  • Evidence of the ability to write for publication in leading academic peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of the willingness and ability to apply for external research funding.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching ability at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students.
  • Experience in disseminating knowledge arising from research or knowledge exchange to various audiences and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the University's strategic objectives, with a focus on supporting the student experience.
  • Commitment to the University's policies and procedures including promoting equality in own area of responsibility and in general conduct.


Desirable Criteria

  • An established track record of research, publication and external research funding
  • Experience of successfully developing and leading the delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate and/or executive education programmes and/or courses.
  • Ability to contribute to the department's MBA and executive programmes.
  • Experience of online and/or blended learning.
  • Ability to teach on programmes delivered internationally.
  • Membership of relevant Professional bodies, demonstrating professional standing.
