Locking Systems Engineer (KTP Associate) (2384)

Based at: Train Locksmiths Ltd, Atherton

The role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 30-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop an advanced, cost effective Industry 4.0 enabled locking systems for domestic, medical and commercial applications.

Company information:

Train Locksmiths Ltd is a nationally recognised and regulated training provider focused on the locksmith and security industry. Established in 2009, they were the first provider of customised awards for locksmiths, focusing on training for ex-MOD personnel. In March 2019 they were accepted as a Highfield Qualifications Approved Centre, and will be first to market with a government-led national diploma for locksmiths.

Qualification we require:

Degree level or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, or a Subject Matter Expert within the field of locksmith and security recognised by a major lead body.

Application requirements:

Priority will be given to those who have locksmith experience and a management background, for example:

  • Qualifications and/or evidenced Continuous Professional Development within the field of locksmith and security.
  • Knowledge of commercial and automotive locksmith systems.
  • Qualifications and/or evidenced Continuous Professional Development within the field of quality assurance, training and assessment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in some or all of the following:

  • design experience in electronics system development including circuit simulation (for example with Multisim or PSPICE);
  • microelectronics/microprocessor or PSoC development (C, VHDL, VERILOG);
  • embedded processing, data acquisition and signal conditioning, or related fields, i.e. Digital Signal Processing;
  • micro-controller communication busses, for example, I2C and Ethernet based; and
  • software development in a graphical environment C, C++, Java, Python.
  • Internal mechanical locking mechanism’s
  • External fitted mechanical and electrical security devices

Personal attributes:

  • capable of working independently and of taking direction;
  • enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated;
  • good command of written and spoken English;
  • capable of communicating complex concepts in a clear manner to a wide-ranging audience; and
  • enthusiasm for electronics and software engineering. 


  • £2,000 per year to spend on personal training;
  • attendance at two residential managerial workshops (each of one week’s duration);
  • opportunity to register on a higher degree (at a reduced or no cost);
  • opportunity of a permanent position with the company; 70% of host companies make a permanent job offer to their Associate at the end of the project.
