Policy and Research Officer (4365)

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Manchester Metropolitan's Public Affairs team, which is responsible for engaging with external stakeholders and opinion formers as part of the University's communications strategy.

The Policy and Research Officer will have specific responsibility for policy monitoring, analysis and research support for the Director of Public Affairs and other senior staff within the Communications Directorate on current issues and developments in Government and the higher education sector.

You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for engagement and risks for the University arising from the policy environment, especially those arising from national government policy in Westminster.

About you  

You will have strong written, presentational and oral communication skills and the ability to summarise and communicate complex issues in prompt, high quality analyses of relevant topics.

Your knowledge of government policy and policy trends at national, regional and local level and in the higher education sector will be detailed and you should have a track record of successfully delivering policy and research projects.

You must be able to work with a high degree of independence in teams with different backgrounds and skill sets.

About the Public Affairs team:

The Public Affairs team maintains an effective interface between the University and key external stakeholders at community, local, regional and national level.

The emphasis of that interface is to

  • enhance the profile of the University with key stakeholders
  • increase its influence with those stakeholders on strategic issues
  • ensure that engagement contributes to the University's reputation
  • identify new opportunities for engagement
  • provide advice, analysis and thought leadership on current issues, andhelp the University deal with external risks
