Research Degrees Manager (Student Administration Management) (5708)

The Graduate School at Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking to appoint a Research Degrees Manager in the Student Administration Management team to provide strategic and operational support to the Graduate School Operations Manager and Faculty Heads of Research Degrees.

The role

We are seeking a motivated, and proactive person to lead, manage and develop the student administration aspects of the university's research degree programmes. Principle responsibilities include:

  • Managing the development, implementation and monitoring of effective business systems and services in relation to PGR student administration in order to underpin the delivery of an excellent postgraduate researcher experience.
  • The provision of expert knowledge and guidance in relation to research degree policy, regulation and compliance in relation to PGR student administration.
  • Leading a team and working in collaboration across the Graduate School.
  • Building and maintaining strong and effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders at varying levels across Manchester Met and partner institutions.

About you

  • You are a proactive candidate with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • You preferably possess experience of the postgraduate administrative environment, especially PGR, and regulations; project delivery; and leading and/or managing a team.
  • You have a demonstrable understanding of the UK academic research environment, the academic cycle and the broad operational activities that underpin successful PGR support; however, we welcome transferable skills. 
  • You will have a passion for providing outstanding customer service and strategic support, through identifying and implementing opportunities for continuous improvements to business systems and processes.

About the Department

Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) is a professional service Directorate with responsibility for the central management and delivery of the University's research and knowledge exchange strategy. Made up of four departments; Research Development & Delivery, Research Environment & Impact, Graduate School and Business Engagement, staff work collaboratively to provide comprehensive support to faculties across the full breadth of research and business partnerships activities.

This role sits within the Graduate School Operations Team and has responsibility for the Student Administration Management team. There are also two other teams within Operations, Assessment and Progression and Curriculum Management which the role holder will work closely with.

In recognition of staff contributions to the University's achievements during the 2021/2022 academic year, an additional discretionary payment of 2% per annum will be added to your salary until 31/07/23 in order to ensure consistency amongst existing and incoming staff.  This additional 2% will be paid pro rata in equal monthly installments, on top of your salary each month until 31/07/23.
