Job description

Senior Lecturer (Law) (3341)

Based in one of the UK’s largest legal hubs, in a great global city, Manchester Metropolitan University’s Law School offers outstanding opportunities.

Manchester Law School, is a leading modern university law school, recognised in the UK and internationally for generating transformative social change through law. We integrate high-quality practitioner expertise, educational excellence and world-leading research in the key areas of Equality & Human Rights, Sports Law & Popular Culture, Legal Geography and the Regulation of the Lived Environment and Professional Lives & Legal Education.

This is an exciting time to join us, as the University has recently been named The Sunday Times University of the Year for Student Retention, recognising our success in supporting students to achieve their ambition. Our Law School recently won the University’s Department of the Year award, as well as securing authorisation from the Bar Standards Board in 2020, and this September maintained strong student recruitment across all our programmes.

The School seeks to invest in its continued provision of outstanding professional programmes with a number of appointments that will align to the Education, Pedagogy and Citizenship (EPC) within the University.

There are a range of opportunities for excellent candidates holding either barrister or solicitor qualifications to contribute primarily across the LPC/BTC. There is an opportunity for successful candidates to contribute not only to the leadership of existing programmes, in particular the BTC, but also to the School’s exciting plans for its future provision of professional programmes post-LPC.  These opportunities offer an incredibly fulfilling role within a university environment, playing a part in helping shape and support future members of the legal profession.

We have broad needs across these programme areas and will require from this recruitment round successful candidates with a broadly Civil focus (contentious and non-contentious), and also with a Criminal focus. We also have specific needs in the Family Law and Property areas.

While most posts are offered at the University’s Senior Lecturer grade, there is also an opportunity for us to make an appointment at Reader level for the right candidate, with appropriate expertise and experience of academic (or appropriate practitioner) leadership, publications and/or unit/programme development.

We would also welcome applications from those following innovative and alternative legal career pathways, in particular, legal technologists, knowledge managers and professional support lawyers.

To apply, please submit your CV and Covering Letter via our application portal. For informal enquiries, please contact Andrew Francis (Head of School) on
