Skills Coach (Leadership and Management Apprenticeships) (3479)

This is an exciting new post based in the Apprenticeships Unit - one of the first of its kind in a University. The aim of the Apprenticeships Unit is to promote and develop Degree Apprenticeships across the University. You will be part of a fast growing, highly motivated, proactive team engaging with a wide range of employers, learners and with academic colleagues from across different faculties. You will act as the initial point of contact for learners and employers, providing information, advice and guidance, monitoring progress against the apprenticeship standard and maintaining strong employer relationships in this rapidly developing field.

Typically, you will:

  • Conduct reviews with apprentices and their line managers both in person in the workplace and on-line or by telephone, building productive relationships with both apprentice and employer and identifying any emerging issues at an early stage, providing interventions where required.  
  • Provide the first point of contact for both apprentices and for managers and mentors in the workplace keeping them informed of learner progress.
  • Coach the learners in developing the skills and behaviours the apprenticeship standard and help them to evidence this development in their e-portfolio.
  • Lead Skills Workshops, support and prepare the apprentice for the End Point Assessment.
  • Provide ongoing pastoral support to apprentices as their Personal Tutor, referring to Student Services where necessary.  
  • Liaise with academic teams and support students with their assignments, in particular the workplace projects.
  • Represent the University in the workplace and provide information, advice and guidance.

The ideal candidate:

  • You should have experience of teaching and/or working with students, apprentice or trainees
  • Experience of leadership and management roles in industry, business or public sector
  • Experience of developing positive and successful relationships with employers is desirable
  • Have a clean driving licence, be able to drive and also travel by public transport when required
