Welcome from Professor Steve Rothberg

Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor

We are proud to be an inclusive community of over 5,100 staff and 44,000 students, united by a shared ambition: to make a real difference – transforming lives and helping partners across public, private, and charity sectors build sustainable futures.

Excellence defines our community – in education and research. 90% of our research impact is world-leading or internationally excellent (REF2021), we hold the TEF Gold Award (2023–27), rank top 10 for student experience (NSS 2025), and no.1 for colleague experience (Inspire HE 2024/25). Through achievements like these, we are now Times and Sunday Times Modern University of the Year 2026.

Manchester Metropolitan is a place where great ideas are nurtured, collaborations flourish, and careers reach new heights.

We’re entering the third year of a five-year campaign to recruit 100 new professors. Together with our internal promotions, our new professors are already bringing senior leadership to advance education and research while upholding our values.

If you are passionate about education and research, with a track record of success and a commitment to support colleagues, perhaps in a team you lead, we want to hear from you.
