Your application

We assess applications against the criteria in the person specification. Make sure you clearly show how you meet these, using relevant examples from your experience - this doesn’t have to be from paid work.

Don’t tick every essential box? Apply anyway. If you believe you can add value, we’d still love to hear from you - and you’re welcome to contact the recruiter to discuss your fit.
We’ll keep you updated on your application every step of the way.

AI can be used, but your application must be tailored and clearly reflect your own experience and aspirations.

Your assessment

Our process is tailored to the role and focuses on what you’ll be doing day to day. Depending on the position, this may include competency-based interviews, teaching sessions or interactive assessments - giving you the opportunity to show what you do best.

You may also be asked to prepare a presentation or complete an in-tray exercise as part of our recruitment process. If this is the case, you will be notified, with good time, in advance of your interview date with full instructions of what to expect on the day of the interview.

Interviews

•    If you are successfully shortlisted for an interview with Manchester Metropolitan University, we may use a variety of interview formats throughout the process. This could include a video interview, Teams interview or an in-person interview at our campus.
•    We may also include a 2nd stage interview as part of the recruitment process. If this is the case, we will notify you once you’ve successfully been shortlisted.
•    If you have any questions or concerns about the structure or format of our interview process, you can contact a member of our Talent and Recruitment team at any point during the process and they will be able to support you.

Reasonable Adjustments

•    At Manchester Met, we want to provide everyone with the best opportunity to showcase their knowledge, skills and experience during our recruitment process.
•    At any stage of our recruitment process, we are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments that may be required to support you.
•    Examples of the kinds of reasonable adjustments we can provide are:
o    Providing application or assessment information in different formats, providing extra time to complete assessments, changing the location of an interview, additional breaks during an interview process
•    Each reasonable adjustment request will be considered on a case-by-case basis and agreed / approved at the discretion of the Talent and Recruitment team and / or the Chair of the recruitment panel.

Application and Interview Feedback

•    We appreciate the time and effort each candidate puts into our recruitment process, and we therefore understand the importance of being able to request, and be provided with, feedback from us.
•    We do not ordinarily provide individual feedback at application stage for candidates due to the high volume of applications we receive across all of our vacancies.
•    If you attend an interview we endeavour to provide you with feedback from the interview panel, if you do not receive any official feedback after attending an interview with us, please contact the Talent and Recruitment team on ManMetJobs@mmu.ac.uk.

Offering a role

•    If offered a position, you will need to provide proof of your right to work and evidence of any relevant qualifications. (add visa link here for sponsorship)
•    All of our job offers are conditional subject to satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks (referencing, occupational health questionnaire, right-to-work, amongst other checks)
•    The particulars of your offer of employment will be discussed with you by the Chair or the recruitment panel, Line Manager of the position, or a member of our Talent and Recruitment Team.

Senior Staff Recruitment

For senior positions at the university (above Grade 10), our recruitment process may differ to that of graded recruitment. The recruitment, selection and assessment process will be tailored to the role, and may include both informal and formal stages,  to assess suitability before making an appointment.

Depending on the role, you may be asked to prepare a presentation to a separate panel, deliver a seminar, meet  key stakeholders across the university’s academy and / or professional services directorates in an informal or a formal capacity, alongside a formal interview panel(s) here in Manchester. You’ll be advised of the process during your recruitment journey with us, and in good time, with full instructions of what to expect on the day of the assessments.

We may also work with our preferred supplier list of Executive Search partners who, on occasions, support the university with our senior people requirements. A fair, consistent and thorough process will be followed, and appropriately communicated, to all candidates throughout the recruitment lifecycle.

Disability Confident Leader

•    We are a Disability Confident Leader. As part of your application, you can tell us if you’d like to be considered under the Disability Confident scheme.

•    Where a role is included in the scheme, candidates with a disability or long-term health condition who meet the essential criteria will be offered an interview.

•    For roles with a high volume of applications, we may prioritise those who best meet the criteria for interview under the scheme.

•    Please read our Guidance and FAQs for candidates with a disability or long-term health condition before applying. We can provide adjustments to ensure you can participate on equal terms with non-disabled candidates.

Armed Forces Scheme

•    We support members of the Armed Forces and veterans through our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and our Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.

•    Our Armed Forces Guaranteed Interview Scheme ensures applicants from the Armed Forces community that meet the essential criteria will be offered an interview.

•    For roles with a high volume of applications, we may prioritise those who best meet the criteria for interview under the scheme.

•    Applicants can indicate if they wish to be considered under the scheme as part of their application.
