Manchester is one of Europe’s great cities

Manchester needs no introduction. The city is firmly on the map whether you know it for its rich industrial history, music, football, creativity or just its lively, welcoming vibe. At Manchester Met, you’ll be at the heart of this global, vibrant and ambitious city.

It’s brimming with cultural hotspots, including galleries and museums and has a thriving food and drink scene. And Manchester is renowned globally as a capital of sport. It’s home to two of the biggest clubs in world football, the nation’s oldest cricket ground, the National Cycling Centre and the national centres for squash, gymnastics and taekwondo. It regularly hosts major international sporting events, and many sports brands and governing bodies have chosen to base themselves here – perfect company for our Institute of Sport.

The city is big on business, with one of the UK’s largest creative and digital sectors. It’s also the country’s leading centre for business, financial and professional services outside London, home to many global banking, science and technology corporations. The University plays a leading role in the economic, social and scientific development of the region, not only by providing skilled graduates but also through strong links with local SMEs, key partnerships with the NHS, the city’s football clubs, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and national government.

Manchester Met is a key player in this Manchester powerhouse, developing strong links with SMEs and large businesses, the NHS, football clubs and local and national government to give our talented students and skilled graduates enviable opportunities and deliver outstanding research with real-world impacts.

Exploring Manchester and beyond

Manchester, and the wider city region, is well connected by road, rail, tram (Metrolink), bus and air. Excellent rail links connect the city to the rest of the UK, and we’re home to the UK’s busiest airport outside London.

And if you need a break from stimulating city life, the breathtaking landscapes of the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Lake District National Park, the Pennines and the Peak District are just around an hour away.
