Professor is one of the highest academic distinctions conferred by the University. Internationally-respected in your field, your work will have a wide-reaching impact across the University, across higher education and across society. Already with an international reputation and presence within your field, you can point to a sustained, high quality and original contribution to knowledge and learning. You are also comfortable operating at the highest levels of seniority across a university.
Our Professors make a major contribution to academic leadership: they mentor colleagues, lead committees and support senior management with strategic planning and insights.
From a research perspective, you will build on your track record of excellence within international research and publication. You will be a highly influential authority within your chosen field and develop this impact through speaking and presenting at international conferences, awards and committees. You will seek to enhance the standing and profile of the University through your work as a peer reviewer, as a consultant or examining theses. You will both collaborate in and generate research of significant value as either principal or co-investigator.
Enhancing our external footprint, you will assume leadership for major projects with social and economic impact. This might include incubation, IP licensing or creating spinout companies, high level consultancy work, the design and delivery of CPD programmes and identifying and leading collaborative initiatives with a range of external organisations. You will lead teams, act as a senior mentor and seek to develop the skills of less experienced colleagues. You will also help drive academic enterprise, secure relevant income streams and create new partnerships and knowledge exchange opportunities.
From a pedagogical perspective, you will play a leading role in improving the content and delivery of teaching within your area. This might include producing conference papers and publications, developing and delivering changes that enhance the curriculum and acting as an influence and role model to other academics.
With a keen understanding of the importance of the student learning experience, you will teach and inspire excellence in both undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing academic, employment and pastoral advice.
These are critical roles calling for high-level leadership and excellence across research, teaching and the management of both Faculty and University.
