The role is UK based with overseas assignments in China
If your subject expertise lies in Software Engineering and you would relish the opportunity to gain exposure to teaching and learning in China, gaining experience of Chinese culture first-hand, along with developing your research and teaching with Manchester Metropolitan University, then this post linked to the Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute (MHJI) at Hubei University could be your ideal next career move.

About us:
Manchester Met is one of the largest universities in the UK, located at the heart of a vibrant and ambitious city. The University is committed to providing excellent education to transform our students' lives, and to delivering high quality research with powerful real-world impacts and benefits, as evidenced by our highly successful REF outcome.

To build upon our success, and as part of a long-term plan to enhance our reputation, further develop our ties with China and promote study opportunities in Manchester, we launched a Joint Educational Institute with our partner Hubei University. This exciting strategic project for the University will continue to raise our international profile, and enable the Lecturers we appoint to benefit from a truly unique international experience.

The Opportunity:
As a Lecturer in Software Engineering, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering a variety of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You'll also have the opportunity to develop research partnerships with colleagues at Hubei University and / or continue to carry out your own research working with colleagues at Manchester Metropolitan. Promoting the department, faculty and university by supporting a range of activities will be important too. You will be able to take part in knowledge transfer and business engagement opportunities, developing partnerships to share best practice or exploring the possibility of collaborations.

About you:
To succeed, we are looking for a good first degree and PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent qualifications). You will ideally have two years' university teaching experience, preferably gained in a UK context, although you'll be supported to gain a teaching qualification if you do not have one. Membership of any relevant professional bodies is also desirable.

An in-depth understanding of the subject, including recent developments in Software Engineering approaches including software architectures and modern software development technologies is essential for this role.

Committed to ensuring teaching content is stimulating, inspiring, appropriately challenging and reflective of the current state of the discipline and / or professional subject bodies, you're also adept at using initiative, creativity and judgement when undertaking research and scholarly activities.

Further details:

Commencing as soon as possible, this is a fixed term post based in Manchester with two overseas assignments per year working at Hubei University, China. You'll be based at Hubei University's campus in Wuhan for a six week delivery block, twice a year, typically, starting in September and February.

The successful candidate will receive an attractive reward and support package, including free on-campus accommodation during your time at Hubei University, paid return flights to the UK for the two periods based in China, and tax equalisation on pay, whilst on assignment. UK relocation support may also be offered, subject to eligibility.
