We are recruiting a Lecturer in Ancient History, with specialist knowledge of Roman history, to provide high quality teaching in the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy.

About us

Situated within the Arts & Humanities Faculty, The Department of History, Politics and Philosophy brings together the expertise of over 50 academic staff. The History team share an interest in European, American, Eastern histories, stretching from the Ancient to the Contemporary period. We have a long tradition of publicly engaged research and work extensively with partners across the region.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University is a unique environment where Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences sit alongside the Manchester School of Art and the Manchester Fashion Institute. Student experience is at the heart of everything we do. Ideal candidate

This is a 12-month fixed term 0.5FTE Lecturer in Ancient History role (anticipated start September 2024). The successful candidate should have experience of working as part of an academic team. They will be an excellent teacher, and they will be committed to promoting inclusivity in and through their teaching.

 

They will have:

  • A good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications.
  • A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or an agreed professional equivalent.
  • An in depth understanding of Ancient History, in particular Roman History.
  • Commitment to the University's strategic objectives, with a focus on supporting the student experience.
  • Commitment to the University's policies and procedures including promoting equality in own area of responsibility and in general conduct.

 

In some circumstances, we will consider applicants who do not have these qualifications but are committed to obtaining them and have equivalent significant attainment in their professional field.
