Assistant Tax Manager (4001)

We are looking for a proactive and self-motivating Assistant Tax Manager to join our expanding Taxation Services team. This is an exciting new role that the post-holder will be able to shape and influence in response to the University's needs. The role will primarily be VAT focussed but will also encompass Corporation Tax, Employment Tax and taxes in overseas territories giving the opportunity to expand the post-holder's taxation knowledge and experience.

Taxation Services is responsible for all tax compliance matters at the University and its subsidiary and associated companies, in the UK and overseas. We work closely with other Finance, Professional Services and Academic colleagues to advise on a range of taxation issues affecting the University's activities and keep colleagues up to date with tax developments, providing training and guidance as appropriate. We work closely with a range of external advisors and collaborate with colleagues from other Universities to share knowledge and experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare necessary returns in a timely manner,
  • Analyse transactional data to identify opportunities for tax savings,
  • Provide a high level of customer service when dealing with internal stakeholders and represent the University in a highly professional manner with external stakeholders,
  • Manage your own workload Be responsible for prioritising your own work to meet strict deadlines,
  • Be responsible for the on-going training, guidance and support to colleagues across the University in relation to a wide range of taxation matters.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tax knowledge and experience of working within an in-house Finance team or Professional Services firm,
  • Professional tax or accounting qualification, or currently studying towards a professional tax or accounting qualification (support with continuing studies will be provided, if necessary)
  • Great communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and data analysis is essential, and experience working with SAP is desirable.
  • A self-motivating, professional and pro-active approach to work.
