We are looking for a professionally qualified counsellor/psychotherapist to join our team at MMU Counselling, Mental Health & Wellbeing Service. You will be a graduate with substantial experience of working in a team with a diverse client base. You will be experienced in offering brief, focused counselling or therapy within an organisation. You will be BACP Accredited or with an equivalent professional body, and you will be trained to diploma level or above in CAT or another relational / psychodynamic therapy, CBT or DBT.

Typically, you will:

  • Carry a significant case load of students with complex needs, providing initial assessments and individual counselling sessions.
  • Provide support for University staff on issues arising from their work with students by a variety of methods, including consultation by phone and email, and training and development sessions.
  • Respond to urgent queries as part of a duty system and provide drop-in sessions to students.
  • Take responsibility for the planning and delivery of psycho-educational workshops and courses.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and records in accordance with the procedures of the Counselling, Mental Health & Wellbeing Service.

The ideal candidate:

  • Experience of holding a case load of 25 plus clients per week, gained working within an institution/organisation.
  • Substantial experience of risk assessment and management with clients experiencing a range of mental health issues.
  • Substantial experience of working with clients from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent relational, communication and presentation skills sufficient to be able to undertake a variety of work within the role, including delivering talks or leading workshops for University staff on issues relating to student support and welfare.
