Data Scientist (KTP Associate) (3409)

Based at: Brodericks, Manchester             

The role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop and embed artificial intelligence capabilities to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitably of integrated vending machine services at Brodericks.

Company information:

Broderick Group Limited is a family owned refreshment company that was founded in 1969 by John Broderick Senior. Broderick's is placed third in the UK's vending market by way of turnover and fleet size.

Brodericks own a fleet of 6,500 vending machines across the UK, providing a range of specialized vending services: food, drink (both hot and cold), personal protective equipment (PPE), table top machines, water fountains, self-service micro systems and payment and management systems.

They have 2,800 machines across the North West England, which they own and restock. The remaining machines located across the Midlands, North East of England and Scotland, where they own the machines but sub-contract restocking and servicing (retaining a share of goods sales). The machines are situated in a wide variety of settings: universities, shopping centres, hospitals, airports, transport hubs/stations and nuclear power plants.

Qualification we require:

A computer Science or Engineering background, preferably with a Masters’ or PhD in Data Science or equivalent. A keen interest in business operations and/or industry commercial exposure is highly desirable given the need to integrate management science with data science.

Application requirements: 

  • High level of programming expertise using languages such Python, Java or equivalent
  • Experience in web development, database systems and SQL.
  • Experience of developing/designing end to end systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of AI/ML and using data to predict outcomes.
  • Familiarity with web frameworks and RESTFul APIs
  • Some experience on platforms such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure or similar would be desirable.

Other attributes must include:

  • Leadership qualities to engage effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to self-motivate
  • Eagerness to learn and develop knowledge in emerging technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good command of written and spoken English


  • £2,000 per year to spend on personal training.
  • Attendance at two managerial workshops (each of one week’s duration).
  • Opportunity to register on a higher degree (at a reduced cost).
