Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Product Design (2656)

We welcome applications for a Lecturer/ in Product Design within the Department of Design in Manchester School of Art. We believe that an art school is much more than just a place. The role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Product Design will support the delivery of the BA (Hons) Product Design course and contribute to the broader Product Design & Craft subject area. Building upon strong traditions in design and craft making, this new course launched in 2019 provides a human-centred focus to the design of products and services. In responding to identified needs and new market driven opportunities we aim to enhance user experiences through the exploration of utility and value.

The successful candidate for this post will have experience of teaching effectively and be able to design, deliver and assess teaching programmes that motivate, inspire and challenge students. In line with the Faculty’s teaching strategy, you will contribute to enhancing the student experience providing a stimulating environment for learning and teaching. You will have demonstrable design and making skills relevant to product design, with competencies in Design Thinking, human-centred approaches to design research, and an understanding of contemporary issues surrounding the application of materials and technology, processes and production. Experience of developing international networks and collaborations would also be advantageous.

The School of Art and aims to foster a research-informed and cutting-edge curriculum that maximises connections with the creative industries in the region and beyond. The successful candidate will support the promotion of the programme, department and university nationally and internationally. You will contribute to income generation activities, and will undertake high-quality research and scholarly activity which will contribute to the development of teaching and research within the Design department. You will plan, carry out and supervise research, using appropriate methodologies and techniques, resulting in high quality publications suitable for submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) at acceptable levels of volume and academic excellence.
