Senior Business Development Manager (Science & Engineering) (2508)

A dynamic and driven Senior Business Development Manager is required to join the Faculty of Science & Engineering, based at Manchester Metropolitan University’s All Saints Campus on Oxford Road.

One of the largest research-led science and technology educators in the UK, the Faculty has outstanding, world-class research in Musculoskeletal science, Microbiology, Advanced Materials and Surface Engineering, Vascular Science, Computational Intelligence and Big Data, Conservation Biology and Complex Systems. Our research is fundamentally interdisciplinary and innovative.

Your team will work with academics and other business engagement colleagues to identify opportunities for the development of commercial and grant income in order to achieve financial targets.


The role requires an experienced B2B Senior Business Development Manager, with experience working within a Higher Education setting, to help develop, manage and deliver an ambitious strategy to increase knowledge exchange activities with external partners in the public, private and third sector.

  • You will lead on to the development of, and provide support for, the achievement of the Faculty’s Knowledge Exchange activities and targets.
  • You will report to the Head of Business Engagement for the University, manage a Business Development Manager and play a coordinating role in working with business engagement and RKE (Research and Knowledge Exchange) colleagues on a wider university level.
  • You will focus on managing and extending relationships with business, public and third sector clients, thereby increasing, and diversifying income streams from contract research, consultancy, KTPs, hire of facilities, growth of Intellectual Property income and other entrepreneurial activities aligning faculty research expertise with client and market opportunities.
  • You will have a strong commercial acumen and experience managing business development staff and activities in a University setting.

Subject Matter Expertise

You will manage a Business Development Manager and an Associate Business Development Manager, and coordinate with other faculty-based business facing staff.
