An Inclusive Workplace

Diversity and inclusion isn’t what we say, it’s what we are, it’s what we do, every day. It is the thread that runs through the University. Equality is part of who and what we are. We’ve led the way with our forward-thinking approach to diversity and inclusion, and we’re proud to have pioneering campaigners such as Sylvia Pankhurst and Dame Evelyn Asante-Mensah OBE as members of our alumni. In 2016, we were ranked No 2 in the UK Top 50 Inclusive Employers We are ranked 16th in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index Top 100, and 2nd in the Higher Education sector We’re also the only UK University to have a Business Disability Forum Gold Disability Standard and we hold an Institutional Bronze Athena SWAN Award that recognises the advancement of gender equality.

We recognise, support and celebrate the diversity that runs through our community and it’s simply part of our DNA that we treat everybody with equality and respect. We weave the principles of diversity into our everyday activities. From training courses to employee toolkits, support for disabled applicants and equality forums, we believe that diversity is everyone’s responsibility. We use data driven measures to ensure that equality is visible in everything we do. We strive to exceed the minimum statutory requirements and we work hard to ensure that inclusion is a mainstream part of our daily culture, as we reach out into all Manchester’s communities.
