The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University offers a world-class research environment at the heart of our campus, located in the centre of Manchester. With a brand new, £115M state-of-the-art building, together with the appointment of strategic Professorial appointments and 3rd Century Fellows, we are investing in our future.
A crucial part of our strategy is to develop world-leading research expertise in AI embedded across all research areas in the faculty and as part of this investment, we are offering up to seven full-time, permanent academic positions in areas relating to:
- Health, sport and active ageing
- Clean energy and environmental sustainability
- Advanced materials and manufacturing
- AI, digital and cyber-physical systems

Our new research facilities provide an innovative space that will see the growth of world-leading research activity, transform how we teach, and build partnerships that create impact. As a core member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in applying your expertise to advance research across one or more of our specialist topics, such as AI, Digital and Cyber-Physical Systems; Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Additive Manufacturing (“PrintCity”); Advanced Materials; Smart Energy Systems; Cardiovascular and Musculoskeletal Health Sciences; Biomedical Technologies; Biotechnology;, Biorobotics;, Climate Change; Conservation Ecology and Environmental Sustainability.
Ideal Candidate:
This is a high-profile appointment; we are seeking candidates with a keen research interest in one or more of our research topics. You should have:
- A first degree and a PhD in a Science and Engineering discipline.
- An established portfolio of high-quality research outputs in your field including the application of AI or related technologies.,
- Clear understanding of how your expertise will be used to raise the quality of ongoing research in one or more of our research topics.,
- Clear plans for developing your own high quality, impactful research in the future.
