Electronics/Mechatronics R&D Engineer (KTP Associate) (4195)

Based at: Micro Materials Ltd, Wrexham

Salary: £27-£34k

The role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop the next generation of nanomechanical testing equipment through advanced software and electronics engineering.

Employed and supported by a team of academic experts from Manchester Metropolitan University, this post will be based at Micro Materials Ltd's premises in Wrexham. This is an opportunity to join Micro Materials on a ground breaking project to embed knowledge within the business and to build for the future with a view to leading a department within the business in the long term.

Qualification we require:

An MSc in Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering or a similar discipline, as well as a formal qualification or substantial experience in the field of software engineering, with comprehensive experience in National Instruments software.

Application requirements:

  • Good knowledge of statistical and data analytics techniques, and database systems;
  • Experience of a wide range of programming languages including NI, ANSI C, Python, PHP, ASP.NET, MySQL and JavaScript;
  • Leadership and ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders in the business;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, communication, organisational, problem-solving and management skills;
  • Strong time management skills, the ability to self-motivate and good written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge or experience in the engineering sector, specifically in the areas of mechatronics, nanomechanics, tribology, or surface engineering would be highly beneficial.


  • £2,000 per year to spend on personal training;
  • attendance at two residential managerial workshops (each of one week's duration);
