About the Department

The Governance and Secretariat team is responsible for providing a high-quality support service to the Board of Governors, University Executive Group, Academic Board, and a number of University-level committees to help ensure that the University has efficient and effective governance arrangements.

About the Role

In this role, you will work as part of the University's Governance and Secretariat Team which is responsible for supporting the decision-making bodies of the University, ensuring that the University has efficient and effective governance arrangements. Within a busy but supportive and friendly working environment, you will be used to managing your own workload and will provide expert support, advice and guidance to colleagues on governance matters.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves servicing and supporting a range of University committees and includes drafting agendas, arranging meetings, preparing and shaping papers, producing concise minutes and ensuring action points are tracked and progressed.  In addition, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the Team's training offer, providing advice, guidance and training on service standards and procedural issues, and deliver induction and training for new committee secretaries, members and chairs. You will assist with other duties assigned to the team, such as project work and new developments as they arise.

Key Skills & Experiences

With prior experience of drafting agendas, producing minutes and following up action points within higher education, or another similar large organisation, you will be proactive, highly organised and able to manage deadlines.  You will have a keen eye for detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will be able to build effective working relationships with staff across many levels of seniority throughout the University, and, with a flexible approach to your work, you will be able to work both independently, and as part of a highly focused team.

You will be confident in your ability to use, develop and maintain effective administrative systems to deliver a consistently high standard of customer focused service. You will also be comfortable with collaborative tools such as SharePoint, and other software, in order to support the effective sharing and publication of information.
