The International Office supports Manchester Metropolitan University's global ambitions through international student recruitment, conversion, partnerships and student mobility. We work with colleagues and partners across the world to strengthen the University's international profile and connect students with opportunities to study at Manchester Met.
About the role
We are recruiting an International Recruitment Manager (Northeast Asia) to plan, deliver and evaluate recruitment activity in designated markets across the region.
Reporting to the Regional Development Manager (Northeast Asia), you will develop market-specific recruitment plans, manage relationships with agents and institutional partners, and deliver activity that supports students from their first enquiry through to enrolment. You will take responsibility for agreed recruitment targets and market budgets, using performance data and market intelligence to shape priorities and identify opportunities for sustainable growth.
Working closely with faculties and professional services colleagues, you will provide specialist advice on recruitment trends, competitor activity and market developments. You will also represent Manchester Met at recruitment events in the UK and overseas, coordinate academic visits and support colleagues to engage effectively with prospective students and partners.
The role involves extensive travel to Northeast Asia, with individual visits typically lasting between one and three weeks, alongside regular evening and weekend working to support events and communication across time zones.
What we're looking for

You will bring:
- Experience of managing international student recruitment in Northeast Asian markets, including planning activity, managing partner relationships and reviewing performance.
- A sustained track record of achieving or exceeding targets through market-specific recruitment or sales plans.
- Knowledge of international recruitment channels, student decision-making and the policy, regulatory and competitive environment affecting UK higher education.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the cultural awareness to build effective relationships across different backgrounds and contexts.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex information and present clear recommendations that inform recruitment strategy and decisions.
- The ability to respond to changing circumstances, adapt activity and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- A first degree or equivalent qualification, or substantial relevant experience in a similar role.
- Experience of living, studying or working abroad, a relevant language and a recognised professional marketing qualification are desirable.
