Position:                      IoT/ Embedded System Engineer (KTP Associate)

Based at:                     Trumeter Technologies Ltd, Bury

Salary:                         £31,000-£33,500, Depending on qualifications and industrial experience           

The role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 3-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop a novel IoT engineering capability that will improve the integration of the company's products.

Employed and supported by a team of academic experts from the University, this post will be based at Trumeter's premises in Bury

We are now looking to create a brand new range of IoT enabled products, from the ground up, and are looking for a new team member to help us on this very exciting journey.

Qualification we require:

The successful candidate is expected to have a MSc/MEng computer science (1st or 2:1), or  Embedded systems/communications engineering (1st or 2:1), or similar subject. Or Good Honours degree (1st or 2:1) in Computer Science/ Embedded Systems (with relevant or industrial experience). Higher degree is desirable. A background or knowledge and industrial experience in Embedded system engineering would be beneficial to support the Associate in understanding the Trumeter business.

The Associate will need also need a high level of experience in programming, with expertise in IoT platform, web development, cloud computing, and database systems using languages such as Python, Java, MySQL, or PHP.

Application requirements:

  • Expertise in IoT networking architecture and protocols, wireless communication technologies and hardware, microcontrollers, sensors, and interface chips.
  • Knowledge and Experience in Analogue/digital electronics and PCB design would be beneficial but not essential
  • Experience working with RF and radio access technologies for IoT (including wireless standards and LPWAN technologies such as Bluetooth and LoRaWAN)
  • Enthusiastic with strong self-motivational and leadership qualities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to a wide-ranging audience.
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Eagerness to learn and develop knowledge in emerging technologies
  • Ability to work to deadlines, both individually and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks

Experience of software packages (e.g. Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services, IoT Platforms) and network security would also be beneficial. 


  • £2,000 per year to spend on personal training;
  • attendance at two residential managerial workshops (each of one week's duration);
