Manchester Metropolitan University's Law School is recruiting and is offering outstanding opportunities for excellent scholars committed to making a difference for our students and wider society through excellent education that transforms lives and high quality, impactful research.

We are based within a fantastic global city and are a warm, supportive and inclusive Law School community. We were delighted to be awarded ‘Law School of the Year' in the Educate North Awards 2025 and to be part of the Times/Sunday Times ‘Modern University of the Year' 2026. We were awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2025, which recognises our commitment to equality and inclusion.

As part of the University's commitment to the growth of our successful Law, School, in this particular round of appointments, there are a significant number of opportunities that align with our education and pedagogy/practice pathway, including at Senior Lecturer level

We have a number of areas of priority teaching need – especially in areas of Company & Commercial Law, Employment or Criminal Law. We would like to see applicants who are excited to teach in these areas and play a role in leading their development within the School. We are keen to talk to candidates with a practice background, particularly with a learning and development background, who are interested in developing our professional programmes, including those supporting qualification via the SQE.

Every appointment will be expected to deliver excellent learning and teaching in, at least, one of our core UG modules and elective modules at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

Applicants, with broader experiences and understanding in digital legal education, pro bono and sustainability would also be welcome, to build on the School's leadership in this area.

For these posts, ideal candidates would be individuals who able to bring their legal practice experience to the classroom to further strengthen our contextual approach to legal education, including at postgraduate level and/or those who have experience in delivering legal education in HE contexts.

At Senior Lecturer level, we would expect colleagues to have some experience of education leadership (or equivalent in legal practice), with an interest in further developing their profile in this area.

Demonstratable expertise of recent developments in legal education (and wider sector) including in actions to address differential outcomes or awarding gaps among student groups is important for the role.

This pathway will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to be supported in working with internationally recognised scholars in legal pedagogy and colleagues who draw on outstanding legal practice expertise.

We are proud of our diverse student community and the differences that their experiences bring to the School and to professional, public and third sectors after they successfully graduate. We are keen to ensure that our staff group is as representative as possible and so welcome applications from all sections of the community, irrespective of background, belief or identity. We recognise the benefits that a diverse organisation can bring and particularly encourage applications from groups which are underrepresented in the University workforce.

To apply, please submit your CV and Covering Letter via our application portal. For informal enquiries, please contact Andrew Francis (Dean of Manchester Law School) on Andrew.Francis@mmu.ac.uk
