We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Senior Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis to join our academic team within the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced performance analysis specialist to contribute to the continued development of our research, teaching and knowledge exchange activities.
The Role
As Senior Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis, you will play a key role in strengthening our expertise in contemporary, data-informed approaches to understanding and enhancing sporting performance.
You will contribute to high-quality teaching, research and curriculum development across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a particular focus on performance analysis, applied sport data and the collection, integration, analysis and visualisation of performance information in applied sporting environments.
You will bring expertise in areas such as:
- Video-based performance analysis
- Event and tracking data
- Athlete monitoring data
- Data interpretation and visualisation
- The application of analytical approaches to sport performance questions
Working across disciplines including sport science, coaching and data science, you will help develop innovative approaches to performance analysis education and research, while supporting meaningful partnerships with external organisations.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Deliver engaging research-informed teaching through lectures, practical sessions and applied workshops across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Supervise student research projects and support student development.
- Contribute to curriculum design, enhancement and quality assurance activities.
- Develop and maintain an active research profile aligned with departmental and faculty priorities.
- Produce high-quality research outputs and contribute to knowledge exchange activities.
- Seek opportunities for external funding and collaborative research.
- Build relationships with external partners, including athletes, coaches, analysts, clubs, governing bodies and sporting organisations.
- Contribute to academic leadership, citizenship and the wider university community.
About You
You will have a PhD in Sports Performance Analysis or a related discipline, alongside experience applying performance analysis approaches within research, teaching or applied sporting environments.
You will have:
- Experience using performance analysis software such as Hudl Sportscode, Dartfish, Nacsport or equivalent.
- Experience working with sport performance datasets, including video-coded data, event data, tracking data, athlete monitoring data or similar structured datasets.
- Knowledge of analytical tools or programming approaches such as Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, Power BI, Tableau or equivalent.
- Experience translating complex performance data into meaningful insight for academic, student and practitioner audiences.
- Experience working with athletes, coaches, analysts, clubs, governing bodies or sporting organisations.
- Evidence of effective research-informed teaching, supervision and assessment.
