Help us shape the future of research at Manchester Met.

We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Technical Manager to lead our Core Facilities team. Based in the heart of a vibrant, modern university, this is your opportunity to support cutting-edge research, teaching, and innovation by managing critical research infrastructure and expert technical staff.

About the Role

As Technical Manager for Core Facilities, you'll lead a team of technical staff, delivering high-quality support for research innovation, research informed teaching and commercial activity. You'll oversee specialist spaces and equipment, manage health and safety, and ensure services are aligned with academic needs and university strategy.

Working in close partnership with academic and professional services colleagues, you'll help shape our future technical strategy—keeping our services adaptable, aligned to university priorities, and responsive to sector developments.

You'll also represent Manchester Met in external networks and user groups, ensuring we remain at the forefront of innovation.

About you

The successful candidate will be a confident and collaborative leader with a strong track record in managing teams and  projects. You'll bring:

  • Proven ability to motivate and develop staff through mentoring and coaching.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience in managing specialist spaces, equipment, and health and safety.
  • A commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement.

You'll also have a degree (or equivalent experience), professional registration (or be working towards it), and a passion for supporting research and innovation in a dynamic university setting.
